okay so I have a few now and I have ideas of how I am going to pair them up so I ask you what are the proper names for their mutations.

I am going to run them in their propsed pairs and if you have ideas on what they could have that would be great.

So I have

Harley and Storm

Harley

Harley6.jpg

I call him a Harliquin but not sure where I got that from.

Storm

Boof & Pretty

Boof

I need to get a better picture of his tail as it has some green on it I think but maybe it just needs a clean

Pretty

DQ (Drama Queen) & Fiji

DQ is the lighter one and Fiji is the yellow faced....

IMG_0415.jpg

Blue and Flame

Again Blue is the pied and Flame is the Lutino....

IMG_05371.jpg

I am pretty sure of these ones Colbot Resessive Pied and Lutino

Lemon & Lime

Lemon

IMG_05111.jpg

She is a Lutino

Lime

IMG_05101.jpg

He is a normal green

Unpaired ones

Cloud who is waiting for his Tifa Loackhart (eg he has no girlfriend as yet)

IMG_0546.jpg

Mozzie (I will not breed from cause she is an older bird and a right pain to have in an inside cage due to abuse when she was young)

mozzie.jpg

Normal Green (she has the navey blue tail feathers)

Correct me if I am wrong I am trying to get my head around the whole mutations thing also anyone know a good book I could read about this? Any ideas on baby colours would be nice more just to see if it comes true.

Also if you think I should switch the pairing around then let me know. The only issues with this is Lemon and Lime are BONDED big time and older birds so no go there. DQ & Fiji stick together and Flame and Blue are paired up in the aviary but none of them are really that attached to the others I think I could split them.

As for Harley he is an older bird and if he breeds in the next year they go him if not then I will not try again. The only reason he is inside at the moment is cause he does not like the cold so he winters inside and once quarratine is over I will put Storm in with him if they get along yeah if not then Blue will most likley come in cause they are great mates. Did that make sense?

Cloud is a skyblue spangle, Fiji is a YF2 cobalt spangle, DQ is a grey dominant pied(from recollection cinnamon too), Boof and Pretty are both normal sky blues, Harley looks like a grey normal from this angle ??, Stormy looks like a mauve normal.

I love the first picture of him cause it captures the big man that he is but it was taken on a camera phone so the colour is a bit off.

thanks for that

  • 2 weeks later...

Harley - looks grey normal to me. Just to check what colour is is cheek patches, if silverblue/grey then he is a grey if blue/navy then he is a blue.

Strom - mauve normal (compaire her cheek patches to harleys)

Boof + Pretty - both sky blue normals

DQ -can't see to well but she is a dominant pied, can't tell colour from here. (saw your sig she looks grey)

Figi - as stated YF 2 spangle

Blue - recessive pied cobalt

Flame - lutino as you stated

Lemon - as you stated Lutino

Lime - Greygreen normal. (the tail is black not navy like Mozzie)

Cloud - sky blue and i think he may be spangle as i see the lack of troat spots, but hard to tell with the wings so bright

Mozzie - as you stated normal green

I must have missed this one :D Look again at BLUE. I would say he is DF dom pied.

Harley's Patches are very similar to Storms.

Lime - huh okay just had a good look at him and compared to Mozzie really does have a different body color that's now I know what to look for in the difference between these two mutations

Cloud - Yes he has spangle wings

Really but everyone has told me recessive pied cobalt :D just when i thought I had worked it out....

FYI the above shots are a good six months old, his Blue has come through a bit more on his belly now

maybe due to his lack of markings he looks DF dom pied. Has he iris rings in either or both eyes ?

Let me check

okay just got attacked by 8 unhappy Budgies but yes I believe he does.

Iris rings confirm he IS DF dom pied

Why? I am not disagreeing more learning, how does Iris rings make a difference?

Recessive pieds have NO iris rings. Dominant pieds do. A DF dom pied often looks very much like a recessive pied. BUT they have clearer wings, very little body colour ( the blue part ) and an intense splash of colour on the rump area. A DF dom pied also has markings around the neck and head looking like a recessive pied BUT a DF dom pied HAS either both iris rings or one iris ring on one eye and none on the other.

I think I have an example of a DF Dom Pied...who looks like a Recessive Pied, but has iris rings.

You can't see from this picture, but her rump is bright blue.

Perfect picture Lucy it shows the lack of markings and the iris rings.

Karen- funny that I did question myself if DF dom pied would suit better. :D
