Posted June 14, 200817 yr I decided after my last round of breeding that I needed to do something about new cages. I also needed some cages to hold my birds whilst I had some fences replaced (the aviary has to be moved) I have been trawling e-bay, and then there was a post on here about inside cages, and someone recommended this website JJ Aviaries I looked at the website, spoke to the guy who has the cages, and I am picking up 3 tomorrow. The prices are good, though rising soon, so now was the time to buy. The cages I am getting are 3 x 76cmx46cmx46cm Cages + Stand , all for just $145 for 1 set of 3. So 3 of these below. I do not have time to make breeding cages of holding cages, and the fact that these are on wheels will make it so much easier for me to move them. I am pretty pleased. Big day tomorow assembling them. I had best check all those reports for errors tonight (teachers only work mon-fri 9-3...what a joke!!!!!)
June 14, 200817 yr Author It will be simple. I am qualified to teach design. I can build a computer from scratch. If I cannot do this, I should just hop in my car and drive off into the sunset (no Kaz, I am not driving!!!)
June 14, 200817 yr Great buy... well done. I'm sure you'll have no trouble assembling them. Have fun and good luck with your fence.
June 14, 200817 yr They look great!!! Those cages are easy to put together. If they are the ones im thinking of , then they will just fold together like a cardboard box and clip shut Good luck
June 16, 200817 yr Author okay, I have my new cages. These are my old cages - the wooden ones. You can see they are starting to wear out. I am not throwing them, rather I am going to replace the wood that needs replacing, and leave them in the garage. You never know. Here is one of the new cages set up. I am trialling it with some birds in quarantine. The only problem is that they cut the dowel perches to the minimum length, so when they cut the slit in them to go on the wire, they are too short. To solve the problem, I simply half screwed a screw in the end. Now they reach through the wire. Only problem will be that the perch is not that steady for mating, so in each cage when I am using them for breeding, I will simply put a thicker dowel perch, that I have cut. You can see 2 in the photo acutally. They are darker than the the thinner one. Edited June 16, 200817 yr by Dave_McMinn
June 16, 200817 yr They look good Dave, Oh and I recommended that site I wish I lived up there so that postage wasn't an issue
June 16, 200817 yr Looks good. There is a breeder down in Dubbo uses them for breeding cages. The nest box sits over one of the doors.
June 16, 200817 yr Author That is my plan. I have not had a good look at it yet, but it cannot be too tricky to attach a normal nestbox
June 16, 200817 yr Dave, for the perches if you put a washer over the screw and then screw it on while the perch is in place the washer should hold it tight and stop it from spinning
June 16, 200817 yr Author Melbournebudgies, I thought about that. The concern is that the further the screw goes in, the better the chance of the dowel splitting, so I m evaluating this at the moment. I thought about also getting some little hook-screws. I can screw them in and they will hook over the horizontal wire on the cage, therefore not moving. I did not use one so far as I did not have any - which is surprising as my garage is like a smaller version of Bunnings.

June 16, 200817 yr Derek what do you use to hang the nest boxes? I use a similiar sytem on some of my wire cages but I'm struggling to work out a good, easy way to hang them.
June 16, 200817 yr I considered that but was worried about the strength, sounds like I'll give it a go then Thanks
June 20, 200817 yr Heya, have you got a link for the guy that you bought these cages off? I am after some but haven't had much luck sourcing cheap ones Cheers!

July 7, 200816 yr Author That is my plan. I have not had a good look at it yet, but it cannot be too tricky to attach a normal nestbox Here is a photo Very good setup with cages and breeding boxes. Where do I get breeding boxes like this? Everwhere I go they only have the traditional budgie breeding box, which these obviously are not.
