Posted June 11, 200816 yr AV kindly got me a beautiful new bird today but i am blowed if I can work out what he is. He is bright yellow(like a lutino) all over with no wing or neck markings. His only markings are pale dutch pied type markings on his chest, vent and rump. His eyes are black I think but it's a little hard to see them under the eyebrows, they might be plum He has eye rings. At this stage I am saying dom pied but I find it a little strange that he has no other markings on him at all! I don't believe he is a fallow as he has a nice bright blue cere. I will post a nice series of photos tomorrow when I have my camera but there is one shot of his front in AV's topic. Forgot to add he has white cheek patches rather than blue  Here's the link to AV's thread: http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....mp;#entry236363 Edited June 11, 200816 yr by melbournebudgies
June 11, 200816 yr Fallows have red eyes, check patch are usually a violet colour and they have brown markings and the cere doen't change in males so you can rule that one out !!! Looks to me as a DF dominant ( yeah i spelt it right) pie Edited June 11, 200816 yr by Neat

June 12, 200816 yr okay well he's not Ino because his feet are grey and his eyes are black... So far my bet, without a back picture is he's a DF spangle masking dom pied but has suffision which can come through revealing his pied markings? Pieds don't specifically have white throat spots, they can have all colours including mixed. Df spangles also have dark feet.
June 12, 200816 yr Author Neat to answer your quetion about wing markings he has none at all. The green on his chest/vent/rump is the only marking at allSo does that mean that after all my trying to breed a df spangle with no luck I've probably ended up with one anyway!!! Yippeeeee. Now what to breed him with? My choices are a big grey normal, a big green opaline, a medium blue dom pied or a medium blue fallow. Thoughts....?
June 12, 200816 yr see it was suppose to be! he was waiting for you all this time! Ivan says when you get chicks out of him he wants pictures to put up on his wall of fame
June 13, 200816 yr Author I checked my hens this morning and the grey hen that I thought was normal is actually an opaline I think (she has a lot of spotting in the V area but no barring on her head so I think the spotting tricked me when I just looked quickly the other day). The only good sized normal marked bird I have is the dom pied who is a dom(dutch) pied normal. The rest are all opaline or spangle.
June 13, 200816 yr Well i'd put him to an opaline hen if you have no normal ones. That way you'd see if the pied gene is there and if the spangle gene is (definate spangles 50% dom pied off spring) The cocks will be split to opaline, unless the dad already is, then you'll get opalines also.
June 13, 200816 yr Author Cool, I guess if I put him with the grey hen I will also get to find out whether he is split for blue, so would she be the best bet or should I use the green opaline hen.
June 13, 200816 yr Author I guess it would be nice to know. The hens are essentially identical except that one is green and one is grey, so I guess using the grey would kill two birds with one stone. I think the grey is actually a better type than the green, she has a better head than the green defniately. It's a bit hard to know what she is like other than that as she had a case of rickett's as a baby so she stands a little funny, as it is it will be a test to see whether she is able to have chicks.
