Posted June 10, 200817 yr hi, just wondering if it is okay to have bing in the same room as our gas heater? thanks Edited June 10, 200817 yr by Andrew
June 10, 200817 yr depends on the type of gas heater, where it is and where Bing is in relation to the heater Is there a flu that vents outside ?? Will Bing be in a draft - gas heaters draw air in from outside causing drafts around windows and under doors. Edited June 10, 200817 yr by **Liv**
June 10, 200817 yr Author well it is a plug in natural gas floor heater and the gas connector is right next to his cage with him being practically right next to the heater, i dont think it vents to the outside, but you cant smell the gas when it is on
June 10, 200817 yr Also make sure your heater has a blue flame not a red/orange flame. Red/orange is bad for anyone in the room
June 10, 200817 yr Its not the gas that is the problems with these heaters, its the fumes they omit. they give off large amounts of carbon dioxide which is bad for anyone and very bad for budgies. We have a wall gas heater with an external flu that goes out the roof. I would use great caution with your heater
June 10, 200817 yr I know what you mean, it's one of those short firplace type old gas heaters yeah. That's fine
June 10, 200817 yr Author its just a normal heater that you plug into the wall, it is rectangular with 6 little rectangular heat pads in the middle of it but we only have it on two, it is natural gas, thats about all i can tell you... o and it has a fan
June 10, 200817 yr Yeah it's basically the portable version of what I was thinking, the gas heats up the grill behind and turns it red. That's nothing to worry about. Don't have it on while your budgie is out though as they get very hot and you wouldn't want a nasty accident.
June 10, 200817 yr Author lol of course MB this leads me to another question... Air conditioners and budgies??? is it safe whether it is heating the room or cooling the room, toxin-wise???
June 10, 200817 yr There are pretty strict standards for things like that, as far as toxins I doubt there would be any problems but as a general rule I wouldn't hang the cage up high if you had a gas heater running.
June 10, 200817 yr the burning flame consumes oxygen in the room air, so make sure there is adequate ventilation Edited June 10, 200817 yr by **Liv**
June 16, 200817 yr my personal opinion no, I do know of 2 people that lost their budgies due to a gas leak or the flame going out, I use an electric heater (non tephlon).
