Well I Am Officially A Wildlife Foster, So Much For Going Slow!

Well I had planned to go slow but just by coincidence I met a local wildlife carer today and we just clicked :) Despite her saying initially that she wasn't going to take on any more mentees as she is getting on a bit and it is too much hard work, after chatting for about half an hour she changed her mind and offered to be my mentor. So she is getting the forms sorted and very soon I will be an official wildlife foster and she is going to start me off with any baby possums she gets :D But first I need supplies!! I need to get another aviary or two at some stage, but more urgently I need heat pads, infant animal milk powder(she uses biolact), bottles and teats, pouches (I'll make these myself) and I need to get my other half to finally convert the wooden reptile enclosure into a brooder for me.

Anyone have some connections that might be able to get any of these at a good price for me? I'm happy to take vet's second hand heat pads cheap, etc ;):o:D

Congratulations MB…you are taking on a full time job, I would have thought with those boys of yours & Uni you would have been flat tack already & looking after your other pets as well…best of luck.

I used to use divetelac (sp) Go and try your local second hand shop/good sammies and ask for any old pillow cases, sheets, blankets that they arent able to sell. Even rags as you will need a few of these after feeding to make them go to toilet /clean up after!

Old elec blankets I dont think the second hand shops are allowed to sell so see if they'll pass them on as well.

Try and order a box of teats wholesale as you will go through a few and buying them a few at a time is frustrating and the shop wont have the one you need in an emergency, get a few different types I had a roo that didnt like the roo ones for ages so had to trial him on a few.

You know have your hands full ........ Hope you don't get an emergency call on your weeding day ....

My mentor isn't keen on divetelact, apparently it is more hassle thansome of the other brands that are more specific for the animals, divetelact is used for everything from kittens to kangaroos and it can be fiddly to get the right mix. She used Biolac which she feels is easier
