Got these at the Ipswich Bird Show today.

Didn't find out until I examined them when I got home that the female pied is underweight and the green hen has scaley mites!

She hates treatment but in a week she'll be grateful. She did love having her head scratched and had me do it for 10 minutes - even after discovering that a human was doing the scratching and not another bird! hehe

The fellow and lass on the right are Red Rumps. He's an opaline split to blue and she obviously is albino.

lol Jen you've got no chance!

This is outrageous! The male red rump has died! Unbelievable!

Not only do I get sold underweight and a scaley mite infected budgie but weak red rumps! I thought he was lethargic yesterday but figured it was because he was dragged to a show.

Obviously there is no health standard required for the Ipswich Show. Knew I should have picked up his business card, he was selling cage fronts, then I would have called him and given him what for!

Got to admit, I saw some pretty miserable looking birds at the show yesterday.

You are going to have to watch the rest of them now so that whatever he had hasn't been passed on to the rest of them. Could end up losing the lot of them.

There really needs to be some kind of health guarantee for these shows.

I'm not just talking about the for sale birds, there would have to have been a good $50 000 worth of show birds on sale, if the red rump had something airborne it could theoretically infect every bird there.

Just a pain that the vet near me no longer does autopsies.

Sad to hear he has died :( I must say the birds at the sale down here were all looking great so it is awful to hear that your sale was so bad. I thought he was a red rump, I have a pied RR male in my aviary quite similiar I didn't realise the white one was a RR too though she's pretty!

She's pretty small compared to what he was. I guess they just haven't been able to breed the size into the albino's yet. The blue's I've got are a decent size so I might try her to the blue male I've got and see what happens.

The bourke's were expensive too. Saw a pair they wanted $50 for them and they are the normals! When I sell them I sell 7 for $100!

Edited by bird crazy.

I am really sorry to hear about your bird dying Karen :) Maybe the organisers may have some clue as to contact details for your seller of the red rump :(

Sorry for your loss :) It makes me so mad when breeders are irrisposible and only see the $$$$ :(

I had trouble with Kimba (tiel) which i bought from a local bird sale -he almost died on me too - It was the brilliant members here who saved his life.

I rang the organisers of the bird sale and they were really helpful. They gave me the number of the breeder and gave me contacts for other breeders if i had any further problems. Kimba is now fighting fit and a little angel :)

Sorry to hear this mate, are you able to get back in contact with the seller???

very beautiful birds, good thing you inspected them when you got home, a good quarantine, food and treatment and they will all be back in good health.

Well the albino red rump never shuts up!

I've gotten a good handle on the scaley mite on the green hen and the 2 pieds are becoming pretty chummy!

I did send an email asking about the breeder but they weren't able to help. Just chalk it down to experience I guess.

At least you've learnt a lesson too.

Good too see that are getting along :D
