Posted June 8, 200817 yr I have seen pics and I think they are rather pretty, I'm starting to think about what my next pairing will be and I have a really pretty skyblue opaline hen in my aviary. To get opaline spangles does the cock also have to be split for opaline or can I just put her to a spangle? I have a couple of spangles which may be split for opaline but I'm not positive so it would be kind of pot luck. Also what would be the result if he isn't split for opaline (ie a straight opaline hen to a straight spangle cock) is that one of those situation where I would just get normals(but splits)????
June 8, 200817 yr You need to put her with a cock split to opaline or an opaline cock... If she already has spangle 50% will be spangles... if you put her to a spangle cock split opaline you'll get DF spangles aswell as opaline spangle and normal spangles, which are all possible... do you have any cocks who're spangles that mothers are opalines??? as those cocks are Definatly split opaline? Opaline spangle hen x spangle cock/opaline = Df spangles masking opaline Df spangles not masking opaline opaline spangles opalines normals spangles And of course the appropriate splits Opaline spangle hen x opaline cock = all opalines - 50% spangle opaline 50% normal opalines Opaline spangle hen x normal/opaline cock = opalines opaline spangles normals spangles And the appropriate splits again
June 8, 200817 yr Author I have some spangle cocks that came out of an aviary with lots of opaline hens but I'm not positive they are split so I would have to do a test mating. I'll give it a go and see what happens I guess, my spangles are GF so they should have nice babies anyway
