Posted June 7, 200817 yr Does anybody else find that their budgies eat more in the colder weather? Mine seem to be going through twice as much seed since the weather has become colder.
June 7, 200817 yr i think it is because they are more active in the cooler weather and they need energy to keep warm so yes i recken they do
June 7, 200817 yr They eat lots more, purely to keep their little bodies warm!! I double my food bill each winter

June 7, 200817 yr Does anybody else find that their budgies eat more in the colder weather? Mine seem to be going through twice as much seed since the weather has become colder. Interesting topic. Maybe they even change the type of seed they choose. Mine at the moment aren't eating the canary or jap or millet they are more into the hulled oats. Fatten up for the cold. Not a bad idea! Where's the chocolate biscuits??
June 7, 200817 yr YES they do, the seed / feed increases there metabolism helping them to stay warmer in the cooler seasons ...... Ya'll can pick our jaws up off the floor - Yes i have learnt a few things or 2 LOL
June 7, 200817 yr I add a little sunflower and safflower to my mix in winter since they burn it off, in summer just a straight budgie mix
