Harmony At Last In The Aviary.

I decided to give Henry a few more days in the aviary to see if things would improve and finally the pecking order has been worked out and Laverne seems to have been knocked down a peg which she needed. Henry has stopped living in the log and will cope with Laverne even sitting next to him but she still is not allowed too close. The babies seem to be starting to go through their first moult, i cannot believe they are old enough. I think Laverne's colour will change when she finishes moulting, i can already see yellow colours showing in her chest area. It will be interesting to see if she ends up looking more green than blue.

So pleased they are working it out :(

Latte's sister, who is out in the aviary has started moulting early too. I don't know if its because of the cooler weather or because of the seed change that happened about 4 weeks ago. Did your babies get different seed at Dave's place??? It could be a diet induced moult.

I wondered if it is the cooler weather that is causing the early moult, i have had them since the 16th of April so i cannot see change of diet affecting them now.How old is Latte's sister? The babies are only 3 months old which seems early to me to be moulting.

I just checked my records. Latte's sister hatched on the 12th of may!! She is almost 3 months too. Wow!! TIME FLYS!!!! 12-15 weeks is normal for a first moult :(

Great news Deb. I'm glad things have settled and Henry is standing up for himself. Here's to a happy aviary. ;)

I am also very happy there is peace Deb. I felt bad that one of my young was causing grief.

Don't feel bad,Dave. I have a young female that i handraised that is similar personally to Laverne and when i first moved her to the aviary she behaved worse than Laverne, she also used to attack me when i went into the aviary as well as pick on all the other birds. She still has a tendency if she is in a bad mood to land on my shoulder and bite my neck. Least Laverne will never do that to me.
