Try and get your hands on an excellent book titled "Incubation and Handrearing Parrots". It has absolutely everything you'll ever need to know in it

I have that one- and it is really good- but I think the info that I get from here is better. There is not alot about budgies in the book, and I just like to check everything on here. To make sure I'm doing it right. I have also got a few books on Busgies stored in my Google Library- Does anyone have any names fo good ones as there are so many there, I just chose a few that look good and it's great to be able to look them up whenever I need to- but still can't beat The Budgie Breeders Club...

How is the little one going Rah? Hope he's okay, as we havent heard anything, I'm scared somethings happened to him......

He's doing really well. Feeding about every 1.5 to 2 hours still. The kids are smitten with him. It is a lot of extra work especially when your run off your feet with a 20month old 4 year old and 11 year old.. But it is so worth it. Now whenever my hubby or kids hear a chirp it's "mum, the baby wants you" just an instant part of the family. So were praying he keeps going strong!!

Really good news you are keeping this baby alive.....all fingers crossed for its ongoing good health. Congratulations so far :D

Not the pest pictures but it's so hard to get a good one he is so little and wriggly.

My youngest Penelope had to see what all the fuss was about. If you look really close she is holding him. I am so proud she was really good and sat real still while my hubby and I helped.

Neat by breeding boxes I meant breeding cabinets not nest boxes ;)I plan to put my double breeding box in the aviary but with a double wire front on it. How far away do you ctually have to keep the other birds? I would assume that as long as the birds can't bite each other through the cages then that would be fine.
LOL sorry MB, thought you were talking about the nest boxes .....I agree with repacing the bowl of water with a different type of ( mositure) don't want to put all that effort in , and for him/her to wriggle and drown .......My hat is off to you i have a 2 year old and a 4 year old and I am run off my feet - I hope everything runs smoothly for you keep us posted

Congratulations rah, hope he continues to thrive for you!! Continue what you're doing and you shouldnt have any problems! I have handreared a lot of babies so if you have any questions just let me know!!

 Awwwwwww. That is such a cute photo! Congrats thus far. I hope all your hard work pays off and your little one makes it. Sending lots of good luck and love to you and your baby!

I love reading every day your baby has survived one more day. He is gonna be one VERY special budgie if he makes it and I just know everyone here is wishing and hoping that he does

He has grown so much already!! Well done. I am really enjoying this post. I am very impressed - hand rearing is something i am not brave enough to attempt. Hope everything keeps going smoothly for you.

I know this is  but I thought you might like to see the one day old babies I handreared last year. The first photo is of a King Parrot and major Mitchell (two more hatched half hour later) that just hatched from my incubator. I reared them from Day 1. They grew up to be amazingly tame!

I tried to get some good pics. He's doing great... Weighs 3grams with an empty crop. Is that okay for a 4 day old? He seems to be pretty strong and has a loud chirp. I'm really happy with the way things are going.

He looks great Rah! His weight is good, what are you feeding him?

Roudybush Formula 3. I always have it on hand for the Ringnecks and the vet said it would be fine for the budgies as well. What do you think of it? What do you use?

I have never used Roudybush but have heard that its really good. For newly hatched chicks I normally use Neocare by Vetafarm (I think). It has all the essential vitamins and minerals for tiny babies. But as your bird is thriving I would stick with Roudybush. Some breeders say to mix a small amount of natural yogurt in with the handrearing mix but I have never done it.

Thanks. I don't think I'll try the yogurt, just in case I messed it up and it hurt bub...

Yes I agree, but it does contain a lot of goodness - probiotics, which is almost the same as the hen's "milk". (A bit like human babies having colostrum from their mums)

I'll keep going with the Roudybush, but might find somewhere that stocks the Neocare just in case. Thanks...

Awsome news. I'm so excited for you that things are going well... keep up the good work.

I have some sad news... The baby died thismorning between 4.30am and 6.30am. Not sure why. We are all very sad.
