More Babies

Hi all ..... just wanted to update everyone on how my babies and mum and dad are going ....... now have 6 babies and an egg still unhatched ....... mum and dad are being great parents, babies all seem to be well fed and happy and look very healthy.

They were in an aviary with finches and canaries and cockatiels but after watching them for a while noticed every time mum came out of breeding box another bird would go to her box and im not sure if they were trying to get in or just looking but i felt it was best to bring them inside with breeding box in a cage and have done so and all seems great. Its great to be able to sit quietly out of the way and watch how the parents look after their babies.

There is quite a difference between the eldest baby and the youngest ..... eldest has some "fluff" and we are handling this one every day ...... we are actually handling them all for a short time every day ...... i hope this is okay ..... mum and dad seem to be okay with this ......

If im doing anything wrong or theres something i should be doin that im not i would appreciate the advice.

Is there anything special we should be feeding them. At the moment they have seed and greens and vegies

Thanks for listening

Rose

Make sure they have an ample supply of calcium in one of the many forms avaliable at all times. Seed and greens are good to supply along with fresh water... try maybe some form of soft food (egg and biscuit) if avaliable.

Removing a nest box, especially one with babies or eggs is never a desired move, however luckily enough for you it seems to have worked out this time. I would suggest however you re-think your aviary set up and the types/amounts of birds you have in there together.

Weero's and budgies can get away with being mixed in together, however finches and canaries should not be mixed in with these breeds.

Glad to hear everything is panning out well in the end though, look forward to photo's.
