I put this out wet for them sometimes but it spoils very quickly obviously and I find it difficult to judge how much they will eat so often lots goes to waste. Has anyone had any luck with their birds eating it dry? With this cold weather I have noticed that some of the birds are losing condition a little and I think maybe I need to increase the protein and to a lesser extent the fat in their diets to give them a bit of a boost until the weather starts to warm again. I thought the crumble might just give them a bit of oomph.

I am not a pellet person, May incresae their protien via different Fruits and veggies and egg whites

I have never tried feeding it neat or dry by itself, I use it as a small part of my soft food mix just mainly to supply minerals that they might not get otherwise. I think if you want to increase their protein hard boiled egg would be better & they are always keen to eat that. I have never tried pellets with Budgies, but if you give chooks a choice between pellets & grain they always eat the grain first. Bird have very small crops so you can’t expect them to eat large amounts just small amounts fresh is best. With soft food I have always found it critical the level of moisture in your mix, if it’s too dry they don’t eat it & if too wet [sticky], also they wont eat it, you just need to get it crumbly.

I use Vetafarms Finch and Budgie Crumbles dry. I mix a little hulled oats with it. At first they just picked through the oats but now eat it well. The 19% crude protein is the reason I use it for the growth in young birds.

 

19% is the same as what is in the chicken crumbles.

I have used both chicken and turkey crumbles and as most things some like it some dont , I use it dry as it is less likley to go off .

Always check the ingrediants list on the bag this will tell you if it contains any medications , as some do , and the protein level , Turkey crumbles are around 21% . As with all things use in moderation and watch for problems and improvements and vary use as needed .
