June 3, 200816 yr Very cute! You should be careful however handling babies even at that age outside the boundries of a cage, aviary, house as they can shoot up at any time even if you think they can't fly yet.

June 3, 200816 yr Author They are beautiful ..... Use some warm water to get the poop of their feet leaving it on can cause problems The poop is a problem I have done the warm water thing with them but they put up a terrible fight. After I cleaned them a few days back I put them back in the cage. Dad was so stressed he jumped into the nesting box and didnt come out for a hour, after that anytime out went near the cage he jumped in the box as if to say leave my kids alone he did that all day long.
June 3, 200816 yr Put nesting material on the cage floor and in the nesting box to soak up the moisture from their poos and minimalise the amount that gets stuck to their feet.
June 3, 200816 yr I have found the easiest way to cope with poopy feet, if the hen wont leave nesting materials in the box, is to just do a 5 minute check of them all every day and pick off the small amounts that are stuck, that way you dont have to do the whole soaking process and take them away from their box for long amounts of time. I used to bring all the chicks of one pair in every so often and use warm water and cooking oil and soak it off and use a cotton bud to pry/soak off the poo. It's tedious and stressful to all involved, when someone pointed out to me "I just brush/pick it off every day". Makes the job much easier. Your chickies are lil cuties by the way

I have been putting a thick layer of Millet spray in the box and cleaning it every second day. They all seem to enjoy having a peck at it and its seems to working for there poopy feet keeping them much cleaner.
June 3, 200816 yr Millet won't soak up poop, but will make it messier and be a waste if it gets dirty as they won't eat... Try wood shavings
