Posted June 2, 200816 yr okay every one i have a problem I have 10 budgies 4 boys and 6 hens. in my avairy i have 2 nests. They have almost chewed one to bits the other day i put two nest boxes in my avairy. preiviously i had a pair nest in one of them but the hen died. my flock has quite a few of teni's chick (grown) in it and they seem to be really interested in it but all they do is chew it to bits. Is this normal? I really want them to breed, it is winter here so will that have any effect? I have considered selective but i need some more info on this. Any help apriciated Thanks alot
June 2, 200816 yr You will get some excellent information from the FAQ section http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...=show&cat=7
June 2, 200816 yr Breeding in winter is not a big issue, if you have a suitable area for them to get out of the cold. If you are wanting to colony breeding, and putting nest boxes in your aviary, only having two nest boxes with that amount of hens is a disaster waiting to happen. You should always have twice as many nest boxes as hens. There is also the chance of fights still happening even if you do, but this should lessen them. I personally would not colony breed, as I am not home enough to watch them. I only cabinet breed. There is plenty of information on all of the above stuff in the FAQ's. Do a search there and check it out.
