Posted June 1, 200817 yr I know you have probably told me 100 times but how long does it take for an egg to be laid after they do their thing? because i have had a hen in a nest box for 2 weeks and still nothing????
June 1, 200817 yr It takes about 10 days for an egg to develop. Just because she was in the box for those first 4 days though doesn't mean she had a fertile egg starting then though.. I think that's right but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
June 1, 200817 yr After successful mating it will take 3-4 weeks fot the hen to laid an egg, once one egg starts they start every 2nd day ( usually) mine have had the odd 3 days or 4..... * Remember just because we don't see them mating doesn't mean they haven't they usually start at the crack of dawn before we are all awake ..... Missylu, keep an eye out for the Egg Bum, that will give you a sign of an egg coming usually with in 48 hours
June 1, 200817 yr As MB suggests about the earliest you can expect eggs after a pair is put together is 10 days, but every birds is different & some can take a lot longer.
