Posted June 1, 200817 yr This is our little hen Custard, she's about 10 months old and finished a moult about 3 weeks ago and since then she has always sat with her wings dropped down by her sides? She eats and flys fine with no other problems. Just wondered if anybody knew what it was?
June 1, 200817 yr Generally the sign of a not happy and not well bird. Check her bodyweight and see how she is. Since you say this is new behaviour there must be some reason for it healthwise. Edited June 1, 200817 yr by KAZ
June 1, 200817 yr It is hereditary posture. Dropped wings are a fault in show birds, but the bird is otherwise healthy as a pet, nothing to worry about.

I had her out this morning to check her weight and she is the same as the others, can't feel her keelbone and anything else bony anywhere.

I agree with it being hereditary - I have 2 hens who are the same. They are sisters from the same pair, and are both cinnamons. They are fine otherwise just got dropped wings - I will not be breeding with them as I don't like the look. Mine have had the 'dropped wings' since they fledged, so yours might be an illness like Kaz said
June 1, 200817 yr Author I was trying to remember whether she was like it when I bought her and had to go back through photobucket to find an earlier photo and they weren't like that then. It has just been since the moult.
June 1, 200817 yr Moulting can take a lot out of some of the birds and they need building back up again...just spoil her and see how she settles
