Posted May 31, 200816 yr Hi everyone, At first I thought Buddy was making that loud shrieking noise for attention, as every morning he will make the noise until I take his cover off and give fresh food/seed. I realised he was also shrieking when he goes to every mirror in the house. He would go to the bathroom mirror, bedroom mirror constantly as if he is obsessed. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me whether mirrors are good or not? Any help would be great! thanks Edited May 31, 200816 yr by KAZ
May 31, 200816 yr Mirrors are bad budgies get very frustrated when their mate (in the mirror) will not respond to their advances. It can lead to behavioral issues, which you are already experiencing with him. I would recommend that you stop his access to the mirrors and give him some new toys. perhaps change his cage around too, and cover him with a dark block out fabric for at least 12-14 hours a night until the behavior stops. When he is awake, spend lots of time giving him attention and talking to him. he will pine for his lost 'mate' at first, but he should then bond to you instead and become a lovely happy boy
May 31, 200816 yr Author Thanks for that, really helps! I have covered the mirrors now. Poor little thing must be confused. He has a friend now, so hopefully he will concentrate on him now! He is really upset that he can't find any mirrors, he hasn't stopped shrieking, but it has to be done. I guess this will be his behaviour for a few days yet. Buddy has heaps of toys and a large cage, I might put some Eucalyptus branches in to keep him busy Thanks again
May 31, 200816 yr I agree with Liv, my birds never had mirrors, and I know Merlin would become obessed he will look at himself in my oval stand dresser mirror and chat it up, he was never scared of the mirror like Pretty was in the beginning. Good question about quarentine .
