Posted May 27, 200816 yr Hi I'm new to this so here goes......I didnt mean to breed my birds but they had other ideas. The hen has been sitting on 2 eggs for about 2 weeks. There was too much interest from the 3 other birds this morning so I removed them to their own cage. Is this correct? Also another 2 have decided to begin breeding but there is no next box in the aviary. Will they still breed if there's no box? I'm not sure I really want them to breed. Thanks.,

Thanks., Hiya, so you took the other birds or the ones breeding out????? I really hope it was the other ones as you may have upset the breeders .... What are they using to nest in if there is not nest box????? If they find a place to breed they will ..... if you do not wish for them to breed remove what they are nestly in ( if there are eggs do not remove them ) as the hen will continue to lay
May 27, 200816 yr Sunny don't freak out as I have moved pairs on eggs from the aviary with no problems, but you will have to make sure she goes straight back to sitting on the eggs again. Also since it has been two weeks you could candle the eggs and check whether there is nice vein growth in them. If they are not fertile then you might as well send the pair back to the aviary and your problem is solved. They shouldn't breed if there is nothing that looks like a box or a hollow.
May 27, 200816 yr If you ever want to move a hen that has begun laying in the wrong place...remove her and her partner to a breeder cage, and keep the first egg or two if she hasnt begun to incubate. Then once she lays the next egg in the nestbox, add the previous two.
