R U My Mother?

Hi, We've had baby budgies before, that we have had our budgies breed naturallyl - however, this time, our mum died when she had two babies. We discovered them on Anzac Day, and I have been hand rearing since then. We had Ron and Hermione (my daughter loves Harry Potter) but Hermione (the older one) died after two days. Ron is still very much alive. He has got to the stage where I don't know what to do next. He is on hand rearing mix, plus baby fruit puree and egg and biscuit mix.

When his mum died, I think that he was about 2 or 3 days old. He is now into full feather stage eg. down plus flight feathers, tail feathers starting to form. He is hungry all the time. I have been lucky enough to be able to take him to work with me. I'm just wondering what to do next.

He (maybe) is now starting to climb, flap and jump and trying to get out of what I am housing him in. Can I have some help PLEASE?

ANYONE!

Taa, R U My Mum

WOW!! Well done for raising a baby budgie from a few days old - that is really hard to do!!

I would pop him in a cage with his 'nest' in the bottom so he can hop in and out and explore a bit without geting into danger. Also give him some millet to chew on between feeds. Budgies wean in at around 6-7 weeks of age.

Also soon if you have another adult bird it might help to have an older bird to copy off, gives them the idea on how to eat seed, etc. Make sure that you introduce under supervison at least initially.

Also I feel it is good to socialise only babies with other birds, I am having massive trouble at the moment with a number of my (non-budgie) birds who were handreared on their own and now as adults are scared of other birds.

Hi and welcome to the forum. You have done an amazing job to raise little Ron from so young. Well done to you... clap, clap, clap!!! You've been given some great advice already, and I've never handraised budgies, so I wont add anything, but good stuff and please keep us updated on your little man! :(
