How Do You Know The Quality Of Seed?

Featured Replies

I know that you can try and sprout it but is there any sure fire way to tell if seed is fresh before you buy it? Also what is the real difference between stockfeed place seed and say homebrand? Is it simply freshness?

good quality Seed will look clean, shiny and 'healthy' and smell pleasant too.

I find the home brand seeds from the supermarkets look cracked, stale and dirty - not something I would feed to my birds.

a good test you can do is to dip your hand in the seed and leave it there for a minute or so, when you remove your hand if there is dark dust on your skin and/or smells bad, then the seed is no good!
