Adult Hen Has Lost Tail

Featured Replies

Hi I have a georgous Adult Hen who has just brought up a beautiful clutch of 3 White Chicks.

Just before the baies left the nest this Hen lost her tail.

Can i expect this tail to grow back?

The Hen is about 3 years old.

Depends how she lost it???

Was it just a moult, ripped out or snapped off?

I have done this with 1 hen when i check the nest box her tail was near the lid and when she flew out of it her tail feathers were stuck in between the lid and the end of the box and they got pulled out ..... They grew back but Man did i feel bad or what .... Needless to say she got a few bit of millet to say sorry ....

I have a hen who tends to loose a tail feather at the end of a clutch. I take it as a cue that she needs a rest from breeding.

I have no idea how it happened, Now that she has raised the 3 chicks, I have removed her into a cage on her own to let her recover a bit.

I do this with all my hens.
