Posted May 18, 200817 yr Hello. I'm Chris. I got two lovely budgies just today. They're 2 years old and i got them from another owner. They are very active and playful. Only thing that bothers me about them is that the male bites a lot. And they have not been tamed yet. So it will take me a long time to get them to sit on my finger or shoulder and do fun stuff.
May 18, 200817 yr Welcome to the forum I hope you enjoy it here & you can learn lots. If your birds haven’t been handled & tamed before it will take some time with birds that already 2 years old. To have hand tame birds it’s usually important to get them when they are very young & have just left their parents. Usually it is hens that bite the most, but this a very individual thing & different birds vary.

May 18, 200817 yr Hello and welcome! As already said, your birds if not hand tamed already, will by tricky to tame at the age of 2. Are they flighty when you put your hand it the cage? or do they just not want to sit on your hand??? They may have been tamed as a baby, then their owner "lost interest' so they lost their tameness. If this is the case, they will need both wings clipped but they should tame for you in time
May 19, 200817 yr Author They wont fly away. But the female will walk away. and maybe fly away too. Male one will just bite.
May 19, 200817 yr They don't sound too untame, just unsure of people, but not terrofied - which is good Does the males bite hurt you? Does he grab onto your finger and bite hard? Or does he threaten to bite, and when you put your finger near him, does he take snaps at you, but it dosen't hurt at all??
May 19, 200817 yr Author He bites pretty hard. I do feel it and it and it's pretty painful, but not very painful. Sometimes he bites hard and sometime he bites like a old man whit no teeth, aka not painful.
May 19, 200817 yr Hi, welcome having two budgies that are 2 years old, is not impossible to tame them. it may be a little harder and it will take some patience but it can be done. l have been taming my 2 2year old budgies for almost 2 months now and they are not completely tamed yet but they are becoming tamer then what they where like before the traing. here is my thread about my taming of my 2 budgies Hobbes and Claire http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....=18572&st=0

May 20, 200817 yr Author Okay , I just went to bed with my laptop. Before that i slowly put my hand in the cage and tryed to stroke her again. And she let me stroke her on the tummy, I did it gently becouse i didnt want to scare her. Another thing that i discovered, She would not let me stroke her in the morning/afternoon, So it's easyer to tame them in the evening? Forgot to tell you guys that i when i was away , she had hit herself against the cage or something , becouse her nose was bloody But she is okay now and she is acting completely normal and didnt suffer any mental damage. Note : "And didnt suffer any mental damage" Was a joke Edited May 20, 200817 yr by Chris
May 20, 200817 yr that is great that you are bonding with her nicely. it wont be long until they are both tame "And didnt suffer any mental damage" Was a joke Edited May 20, 200817 yr by birdluv spelling error
May 21, 200817 yr Welcome, they sound like What the others have said they may have been tame and the prior owner lost interest ... Your Hen allowing you to tounch and stroke her is a great step for both of you :hap: But I do agree if you are wanting to hand tame them to have their wings clipped, This is a SAFETY factor : do they get on your finger yet???? Try offering some millet on your hand and see if they come ... or come close over time they will be very tame it take alot of time ( them being 2 years old ) paitence and dedication ... They are alot more quieter and tame during the evening ( i have noticed this too ) but... My Word of Advice is do the taming 30mins each day at the same time everyday this will help you ......
