Posted May 16, 200817 yr my aviary is 2.4m x 1.7m and 1.8m high and i am wondring how many budgies i can house in it. i am going to look at some show budgies tomorrow and how many i buy depends on how many i have room for. i am building another aviary but it will not be finished till sept.
May 16, 200817 yr About 40 Deb, depending on perching arrangements, feeding stations and no nesting boxes.
May 16, 200817 yr Author Thanks 40 would be nice but i rang up my council and they said i was only allowed to have 30.
May 16, 200817 yr I'm probably way over my councils guidelines, I don't think they really care as long as they aren't upsetting the neighbours, plus I challenge the ranger to stand there and try and count whether there are thirty or fourty in there
May 16, 200817 yr Author i have good news i rang council and they said i am allowed to have more than 30 budgies but i have to build the aviary 6 metres from buildings. my neighbours are complainers so i have to make sure i do everything properly. The bad news is i will have to take down the framework of the avairy i have started building and build it somewhere else but the only other place avialable is where the cubby house is so it looks like i will be moving my cubby house which will be a big job.
May 16, 200817 yr i have seen the cubby house, and you are right Deb, that is a massive job. I think that it will be nicer though when you do move the cubby house. It will be better as well as the cubby house is a little raised and that corner would be the worst for flooding.

As long as u are not upsetting neighbours we wont be upsetting you! Steve

May 16, 200817 yr Should i be starting to worry now, Steve. No, even if I was working for Maitland Council I doubt we would care about bird aviaries unless neighboughs were jumping up and down. Steve
