Posted May 15, 200816 yr Hey guys, Just wondering if someone can help with an aviary extension drama. We are extending our aviary another 2 metres and the concretor was supposed to be here in 8 days, but has changed his schedule and is coming 11am tomorrow! So i need to join the existing concrete slab with the new one and am unsure how to do that. He has some sort of filler but he tells me it is made from tar and so i dont think that would be good if the birds pecked at it. So i am wondering if anyone else has done an extension to their concrete slab and what they have used to join the two together that is safe for the birds if they have a chew. Sorry for the question at such a late notice- but i thought i had a week to sort it out. Thanks heaps Kim
May 15, 200816 yr I am blonde ( naturally lol ) but couldn't they just join it with cement?????? Plus I see birds all the time o the road eating what they can I am sure that once it is set it should be fine Sorry i couldnt be more helpful, Hope someone else can ...
May 15, 200816 yr I would let him make the slab as usual and ask him to leave a little quick set cement behind, then after the slab has dried mix a little and put it in the gap. Such a small amount won't expand enough to cause problems then

I dont think the tar on the join is the same exact as tar on the road - its more a rubbery kinda tar (yep blonde too) lol but thanks for trying to help - you made me laugh because your answer was the same as mine - as least we are having more fun right!
May 15, 200816 yr My driveway is concrete and done in sections...one butts up asgainst the other. No real need for filler if its close, is there ? Use the first slab as the edging and no need to box it up for the pour ? But I too am not a builder
