I have been looking at these pics since I took them and yes they do seem to bring out the blue/mauve colors but looking at him in real life he is definitely a steel grey color.

 

Mind you he does have a mauve heritage.

Parents were grey dom pied cock and cobalt hen. His cheek patches are a very dark mauve almost dark steel grey even.

Parents were grey dom pied cock and cobalt hen. His cheek patches are a very dark mauve almost dark steel grey even.

That makes hima mauve and not a normal grey dom pied. In pairing him you might look for a good blue normal hen.
