I Think We Are Ready...

Hello all!

I lost my Loui boy about 2 months ago, he was about 6 years old.

I have Lizzy who is about 5 yrs old.

I was planning of keeping her as an only bird, but I think she is lonley, she has laid some eggs, and doesn't sing as much as before, so I think we are ready to get another birdie for her.

I think I will have to go with a male, she has a strong temperament, so a female might be trouble. Even though I run the risk of having some babies. (what are your experiences with keeping two females?)

I will prob, go to the pet shop today and see what I find.

Do you guys have any advice from me when introducing them? (I know I have to wait 30 days before putting them together, which is also good so I can spend that time taming the little guy)

Thanks so much!!! Now I will have to go research on how to sex the babies, since it's been a long time and I don't know how experienced the pet shop people are.

Hey... that's exciting for you. Males and Females housed together 'shouldn't' lay eggs and have babies if they don't have anywhere to lay them. Shouldn't being the key word... Two females together should be fine... I wouldn't see a problem with it. If I was in your positition, I would get the same sex, but that's just me.

As to the introducion, I think there is some info in the FAQ's on it. Maybe do a search there. After the 30 days quarantine in different room/air space, I'd then move their cages into the same room, then start to allow them some out of cage time together. You could then allow them to come and go from each others cages as they please. It will be a matter of seeing how they go. Some budgies will get along like a house on fire, and some will not. In time you could house them in the same cage as long it is big enough, but take things slowly and let them decide when it's time. :P

Well, I got a little boy!! He kept coming to me and sang the whole time I was there, so he came home with me.

He is not a young baby, his cere is blue, I didn't ask how old he was. bad bad me!

He is army green with yellow and black. He's very cute. I will get some pics soon!

Thanks everyone for your advice and don't worry, he will not be introduced to Lizzy for at least 30 days, also because I want him to bond with me first. I have to think of names now :D

Congrats... I wish you luck with your new boy!

He sounds lovely :D

You probably wouldn't have gotten a correct answer if you asked about his age :P

I really look forward to seeing photos

:)

 Congratulations to the new addition to your flock!!! :P

Congrats on the arrival of your new little man! I bet he is a sweetie. Can't wait for pics and a name

I took him out of his cage today for the first time and he did great, he sat on top on his cage and then on my finger for a while; and even when I put my hand in the cage to put him back he stayed on my finger. :(
