Posted May 10, 200817 yr I was given a young double factor spangle cock a while back, who has french moult. No flights to tail or wings. But he was coping well in the aviary after his quarantine in a cage. I found him on the floor of the aviary today with two of his toes bitten off completely and bleeding profusely. I stopped the bleeding and have treated him for his wounds. He is currently in an old show cage by my computer desk, with a warm lamp on him. He seems fine and can climb up onto the perch now and sit. Here he is before he lost his toes I never have inside budgies as we have 4 inside cats. I may have to reconsider an inside budgie if this boy heals well, as he has no real life in the aviary right now, and he's such a gentle soul. We will see how it works out.
May 10, 200817 yr Author Aww Kaz, Can he go inside somewhere where the cats can't get him????? In m y computer room if I can train my husband to keep the door shut and the cats out.....he's hopeless

I am happy to say he seems fine, he is leaping all over the showcage, climbing and jumping about. Bright and alert and eating. We just have to be sure he gets no infections. I have had him out for a head scratch or two, he's not too impressed about that but doesnt fight it.
May 10, 200817 yr Not a bad type bird Kaz, maybe you should see if he will breed in a cabinet, with a hen. I’m thinking of trying one FM hen that looks quite good that hasn’t grown back her feathers. I guess it means they are not so immune to the FM, but if they did breed could produce some nice normal birds. Although it probably wouldn’t work with a male as they need their flight feathers to hang on when mating. Budgies appear nice gregarious birds & always happy in numbers, but as soon as someone is incapacitated in some way, the buggers can turn nasty, they don’t seem like humans wanting to help anyone that’s a bit off. If they are off or got something wrong they are straight into them.
May 11, 200817 yr He is lovely Kaz Just a word of warning!!! You may remember i got my first inside bird in March (Scooter) Then I added, Latte, then Cookie, now I have also added Kimba AND Sammy :hap: - Inside birds are just as addictive as the outside ones!!!!! :hap:
May 11, 200817 yr Author :hap: He seems fine this morning. His foot isnt as red as it was yesterday and no additional swelling, He is perching. We will see how he fares over the next few days. He has two thirds of one one of the toes he lost and he lost most of another.
May 12, 200817 yr Author He was very well today and began pacing the cage and calling out to the aviary birds. No swelling to his foot and colour of foot normal. Healing happening. So I took him down to the birdroom to go in the kindie cage to see how he goes in there. As soon as we got to the aviary entrance, he began singing and calling out to all the budgies.....so he is a very happy boy right now in the kindie cage which I keep in the birdroom right by the aviary.
