Posted May 10, 200817 yr Feathers and I have three pairs we are breeding together at my house. One of the pairs is Buffy and Valentino. Buffy, is a very nice grey spangle hen of Feathers and Valentino is a grey green spangle of mine. Valentino takes after his name...a real smoothie in the romance department. They had four eggs, and one was clear. Three fertile. Today, surprisingly all three hatched at the same time, same day. So they have three new babies in there. Cross your fingers for some nice chicks. First chick rung will belong to Feathers Buffy and Valentino
May 10, 200817 yr Author Yeah I am so surprised that all three chicks hatched today...never happened before.
May 10, 200817 yr Nice pair I hope you & Aly get some nice chicks. Yes strange isn’t it about them all hatching the same day, Throwback had a similar occurrence of late; I have had often, the first two hatch the same day, but never more.
May 10, 200817 yr wow Kaz thats amazing that three eggs hatched the same day! Can't wait to see how the babies turn out.
May 11, 200817 yr Author I just found one of the newly hatched chicks on the breeder cage floor, stone cold, but fed. I warmed it and once it was warm and started wriggling I put it back in the nest. I dont think it was thrown out as if it was, they usually have red marks where the parent has picked it up. Maybe have been accidentally grabbed as the mother was leaving the nest... :hap: Cross fingers it will be okay. They have all been fed and the Dad is doing his part too.

UPDATE on the cold near dead chick.......I checked it this morning, and its as well as the other two, wriggling, eating, well fed etc. Good news
May 12, 200817 yr Yes good news Kaz, I think some of them get caught on the Mum's legs as they are leaving the nest, Canaries often do the same thing. Your lucky if you spot them in time. Edited May 12, 200817 yr by Norm

Yeah...it has happened a few times. I wonder if they get sticky with food and get stuck to the mothers feathers...much like broken eggs do at times
May 12, 200817 yr Glad you found it in time and it's doing okay now. You have the knack of being in the right place at the right time with your birds

May 12, 200817 yr Kaz could they have all hatched on the mae day as the mum started sitting after the 3rd egg was laid? This would mean that they were all incubated at the same time makling them hatch a the same time Yeah?
May 13, 200817 yr Author Kaz could they have all hatched on the mae day as the mum started sitting after the 3rd egg was laid? This would mean that they were all incubated at the same time makling them hatch a the same time Yeah? Yes, I would think you are right here, Neat. I saw that she left the eggs alone till she had laid four and then was sitting. One egg was clear. But its the first time I have ever had any hatch on the same day, apart from the twins I had once out of one egg
