Posted May 5, 200817 yr hi guys, just brang home a budgie about 2 hours ago, have never owned one before and would just love some tips, i.e. how to tame them etc. he is pretty tame as is he jumps on my finger but is obviously a bit scared just arriving here, thanks.
May 5, 200817 yr Best to have him in a quiet room so he has time to get used to his surroundings and settled in. Right from the start give him lots of fresh fruit and vegies(might take a while for him to get the idea) to keep him in top health PHOTOS PLEASE!!!!

May 5, 200817 yr Hi Steve and welcome to BBC! As birdluv has suggested, do check out our FAQ section. In the meantime, a very quiet radio is okay (but not necessary), just make sure food and water is fully accesible and it wouldn't hurt to put in a sprig of millet. We await pictures, please click on my signature to see sizing requirements. :ygbudgie:
May 5, 200817 yr Hi Steve I am a relative newcomer to this forum and website. The people that have assisted me have been extremely helpful. Definitely listen to their advice. I just wanted to let you know of a great book that I purchased before I even knew this website existed. It really helped me and I found that by following the instructions set out in it I managed to tame and care for my budgie with complete ease. My budgie boy even talks now and I credit the book to this! It's called "How to Tame and Care for your Budgerigar - by Gil Solomon" . He used to have a website, but I can't seem to find it at the moment. I have Mr Solomon's information at home so I will "post" you again tomorrow with his website and e-mail address. He (Gil Solomon) is really helpful, I have e-mailed him a couple of times! The book can be purchased at http://www.birdkeeper.com.au. Good luck with your new "little one"!

May 5, 200817 yr It is like seed that is still on the stalk, pretty much every pet shop should stock it
May 5, 200817 yr Author okay ill check it out, he still hasnt chirped once is that normal he is dead silent
May 5, 200817 yr Hi again Steve! I have the information on the budgie book and Gil Solomon's website (only if you are interested, of course!) Gil Solomon's website is wwwbudgiecare.com.au. You can also purchase the book from Mr Solomon's website which is what I did! Don't worry about your budgie being silent, he just getting used to things I think. Mine was silent for 3 days just taking us in and observing the place. Now we can't keep him quiet! . You have a beautiful looking bird. Enjoy and love him.
May 5, 200817 yr I wrote up a really good article that you can find on BBC about Taming your Budgie and it goes over what to expect and do for the first couple days, here is the link http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...&artlang=en What type of cage did you purchase for your budgie, was it a small one from the pet shop or did you get a large one? I ask because no one mentioned it and many times first time budgie owners get the starter cage which is way too small. Your budgie is a Yellowface Type 2 Sky Blue Recessive Pied Cock and he is adorable. I would let him get used to his surrounding because getting him out of his cage, when he feels secure in his cage and with your hand and is finger tamed in the cage you can proceed to out of the cage training. Being very quiet shows a budgie that is most likely fearful especially if they are motionless so letting them get accustom to what is around them and you through patience is good. In a week, a new budgie will emerge it could be one that is very trusting of you or one that is biting and stricking back because the bond and trust wasn't formed. I know this through personal experience...so take your time with him. Welcome to the forums and always feel free to ask questions.
May 5, 200817 yr Author thanks elly he is very friendly for only getting here today he wil hop onto my finger and leave his cage but i will leave him in there for a while, i will take a look at your article thanks, i havent seen him eat anything either but im sure he is just frightened thanks again.
May 5, 200817 yr you can tell if they eat if you gently blow on the seeds the empty seed shells will blow off that is how you know they are eating, you have to do that daily to ensure they are getting the seeds down below.
May 6, 200817 yr Author yeah, ill upload a video onto somewhere for you guys so you can tell me whats wrong or write with him etc.

May 6, 200817 yr Beautiful budgie! If he still hasn't found where the "official" containers of food and water are, you can always put small containers of seed and water on the cage floor until he gets used to his cage. Now is a great time to get him accustomed to those awesome veggies!
