Posted May 5, 200817 yr Hi Im very curious on how you can actually tell whether a budgie is male or female When we bought Benny - he was under a sign "Male baby budgies" and when we took him to the vet a week later (just for a checkup) they were unsure also But after posting a photo the other day, everyone seems to think he is a she I have gone just by the colour of the cere, which in the photo seems to be pinkish - but to look at in person, is light bluish Im finding this a bit confusing - as I was looking at a post re: an owners male budgie and it had a very distinct pink cere...I'm confused on how this is actually worked out.....any advice would be most grateful
May 5, 200817 yr When they are babies the male will have a pinky purple colour ceres which is an even colour allover, the female will have a pink cere with white around the nostrils
May 5, 200817 yr The members on the forum are pretty good about sexing budgies, so if they say male he probably is a male, here are pics in our FAQ that can help you too. http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...&artlang=en

That kind of only works for older birds and also does NOT work for recessive pieds which Benita is.
