What Is Franklin Doing?

Featured Replies

Every so often when Franklin is sitting on my knee or hand he does this? It looks like he is bowing and regurgitating. I have a video of this behaviour. Sorry the video is not great quality and is a bit dark. Can someone tell me what he is doing?

changed to links. They were above board size.

Mine used to do this when they were sick just after I gave them their meds. Is he actually bringing something up? Any other signs of illness or not being quite right? It may also be him showing you his affection?? Hard to say. Any more info?

Hi Maesie

He sometimes brings something up. I only see him do this when he sits on my hand, knee or if he is perched on the monitor of my laptop when I am facing him. He has been behaving this way for the past 3 weeks. He is not on any medication and seems healthy. I hope its not a sign of illness.

okay... um, If he was mine, I'd prob get him to a vet for a check up. That's just me and I worry about things like that. As I said before, it could just be an affectionate thing, or it could be the start of something. Better to be safe than sorry I say. They could do a crop wash to check out that there is nothing nasty is going on. BUT, the choice is yours. As I'm sure you're well aware, they often don't show signs of illness until they are quite unwell. Fingers crossed he just loves you!

Sounds like reguritation here is the difference between reguritation and vomiting

Reguritation vs Vomiting

Regurgitation looks just like when the cockbird is feeding either babies or hen. They are bringing it up into their throat to feed others. They arch their head and neck and then bob their heads up and down to bring the food up. Regurgitation is an up and down movement. This is a normal behavior. Read more: Why does my budgie regurgitate for me (or another object)?

Vomiting is a bit stronger like convulsive and the bird shakes it head side to side and splatters the vomit. Vomiting is a sideways shaking of the head. If your bird if vomiting you need to call your Avian Vet immediately this is a sign of sickness.
