I have a texas clearbody and it is 3 years old her cere is starting to turn from a pale pinky to blue around the edges does that mean that she could have a tumour? Or does this happen to tcbs? Also i have 1 albino hen 1 year old and a lutino 6 months there ceres are starting to turn blue around the edges? I know that the inos ceres go funny but im starting to wonder if i have hens like i was told or cocks?I will put some photos of them up later but if anyone has any ideas without seeing the photos please post okay thanks again guys

Misslu, hens Ceres can change colour at various times of the year depending on their condition. Often hens that are not in condition will go almost white on the Cere with a Bluish tinge around the edges. Hopefully this only what you are seeing & nothing is wrong. Some photos will give us a better chance to advise you.

I agree with Norm. It just sounds like they are going out of breding condition - nothing to worry about. :(

Pictures would help confirm this

Oh okay is it time for them to go out of breeding season? I am feeding them all the right foods i have a cock tcb and he is 4 years old so i think this will be his last breeding season i really wanted to pair them together is there anything i can do to make her want to breed?

I have had a similiar problem with the hens I want to breed not being in condition. I was advised to put them in a cage together for a couple of weeks and then add a nest box apparently by the time the nest box arrives they'll be DESPERATE to breed.

Hey Mel, Plenty of Fresh water and food - and a safe place, like MB said pair them up for a while then add the box

I glue a piece of cardboard over the entrance hole with a 5mm hole cut in it , this will allow you to see if the hen is interested as she will start to chew her way in the hole , this chewing can also help with bringing the hen into a full breeding condition befroe she lays any eggs , nothing worse then getting them to finally lay too have those eggs infertile.

Goodluck.

If you arent sure....post a picture :)

Winter is approaching, which is usually dry in the Australian climate. Budgies will breed all year round but naturally breed best in Spring and Autumn when the weather is warm and wet.

Pair them when it next rains after the winter solstice (after the shortest day of the year 20-23 June), even better if it is just before a full moon (2nd week of July).

I had a squire bird called pinacolada who was 16 years old and fathered 3 chicks, and fostered two dozen others in his final year. He loved babies and didn't mind if they weren't his.

(I purchased this bird off another breeder who was going to cull him because of his age.)

He died a few months after I took him away from his fostering duties to give him a break.

(I think he felt that he had lost his purpose to live!)

I have had hens as old as 9 years successfully raise chicks.

A four year old squire is in the prime of his life.
