Posted May 2, 200817 yr Is there any info on choosing birds to pair, in relation to what colours should be paired together? I am just trying to gather as much info as possible and this just got me thinking. So what would you get if you paired a blue with a green? and is there any rules that should be adheared when pairing? Steve I am only just learning myself and it does get quite confusing when it comes to trying to figure out what the baby outcomes will be. It takes alot of researching and reading it is not something that anyone can tell you in one page.It depends on the genes that have been passed on from the parents and the parents , parents and so on.I am sure someone will post a link for you to look up and do some more research as they did for me.Sorry i couldnt be more helpfull
May 2, 200817 yr You need to consider that Green is a dominant colour to blue. So unless the green budgie has a blue parent all you chicks will be green but will carry the blue recessive gene. Genetics is quite complicated and I have posted an link before on this topic that may help. http://www.geocities.com/heartland/bluffs/1958/index.html Hope this helps. Edited May 2, 200817 yr by Ikon

There are genetic outcomes though. You can pair any bird to any bird and will, except for the some percentages, have colourful chicks. Genetically: If you pair green to blue the chicks will all be Green but will be split (hiding) to blue. The budgerigar has different varieties that act in different ways. Normal eg Green, Blue, grey and violet Dominant: Yellowface, Spangles, Dominat Pieds ,Greens Sexlinked: Lutinos, Albinos, Opalines, Cinnamons, Clearbodies. Recessives: Danish Pieds, Greywings, Clearwings, Dilutes, Blues etc Factors: Light medium and dark, Grey and Violet Each one of these act differently. Edited May 2, 200817 yr by Daz
May 2, 200817 yr Author I would not be breeding for showing, so if I am going to colony breed I guess who ever gets to gether......get's together...... and ends up being a lucky dip. Probably the way nature intended. Either way you would end up with cute birds. Steve Edited May 2, 200817 yr by KAZ edited shortcuts which are not accepted.
