Aviary Floor Alternatives?

Featured Replies

I would love to have a concrete floor with a steel grated drain in the middle, but if I did not do this what else could I do. I could lay large concrete square pavers but what would I put on top of them? Would it be good to put a bit of saw dust or sand on top so its easy to sweep up all the mess? If I put nothing on the pavers I would think all the poo would stick like s**t to a blanket?

I have concrete floors in all my budgie aviaries and I just get in with a shovel every time they need cleaning out and shovel everything up. They come up surprisingly clean. You are never going to have a pristine clean floor with a bunch of birds living over it :D

Tough one. I have just had my new aviary delivered. I will need to pour the slab before erecting it and am thinking of having a drain. The only problem I see with this is that perhaps mice can get in through this.

Just use a metal grated drain, they wont get through that.

My problem is I can't justify the $200+ to lay a slab when I could lay some packing sand down and some concrete pavers for a fraction of the cost.

The pavers will be fine...often you can get them for free from the local newspapers...at worst a secondhand 2 ft concrete slab is a $2 item....and a thin layer od childsafe sandpit sand over top will make life easier for cleaning :D

I have a paved bottom. i have no troubles cleaning it :D

As an after thought a drain would have been nice :D

Never thought about the pavers. May need to investigate further.
