Budgies Not Eating Grass

Featured Replies

I planted some budgie seed in a pot and now it has sprouted and looks like grass i put the pot in the aviary but the birds are not interested in it. it has been there for 2 weeks now. Do Budgies eat grass grown from their seeds, if i pick grass from my lawn and put in the cage they eat it so do they only eat certain types of grass and which ones do they like.

I grow seed for my budgies and they eat the entire lot in about 15 mins!!! hehehe

perhaps yours dont like the pot?? i use a terracotta one

i use long plastic ones, it took them about 2 months before they ate vegies when i first introduced them so maybe i just have birds that are wary of anything new.

Mine love it, but I plant it outside and then pull it out and give it too them roots and all.

i tried picking some roots and all and put it in there vegie dish to try to encourage them to eat it, they ate the vegies and did not touch the grass.if i pick normal lawn grass they will eat it so are some birds fussy

It may be a case of they dont know what it is. If you are persistant then I believe they will try it.

I think over time, they'll give it a go. If it's anything like their veggies, they WILL try it.

you are not alone.

l have grown some grass using oats. my cat and rabbit loves the grass but my budgies will not eat it

l will just keep on offering it to them daily for them to get use to it. l'm going to sprinkle the grass with some millet seeds maybe that will help them to discover the grass?

that is a good idea Birdluv, i might try laying their millet treats in the grass.
