Budgie Is Nipping Me ?

Featured Replies

Hi there...

i have a very tame budgie. He just under 5 months old, and just finished is 1st molt a few weeks ago........he also has just started talking too.....hes is a little bit bigger than the normal size budgie but hes not the real larger size type.

Anyhow,,,he loves to sit on my shoulder and chat into my ears, but every now and then for no apparent reason he willl rush up to my neck and nipp me quite hard....he even tries to hold the nipp for a couple of seconds.........

why is he doing this ? and will he grow out of it ?

thanks

jason

honestly he is probably flirting with you and doesn't mean it out of anger especially since you said he is tame, he could be doing it to get attention, you can correct this behavior by saying no and pushing him away or taking him completely off your shoulder and then letting him back on only when he behaves.

If any of my budgies nip, I gently stroke the sides of their beak with my thumb and index finger - They normally really like it and will stop nipping :hap: - It's a bit like a budgie kiss :hap:

The holding on isn't a generally male act to do. Do you have any pictures of this bird as it sounds very "hen like"??

ppl - people (changed plase do not use shortcuts that are not approved, the list is in the guidelines) thank you for underestanding :)

HE is adorable!!! And, I'm guessing he loves you and is maybe wanting your attention. Can you ignore him? If you can, he will prob grow out of it if he realises you are not paying attention to him when he bites you. Good luck and keep us updated.
