Posted April 29, 200817 yr Jake feathers on his chest seems to be disappearing, could this be just part of a bad moult or old age. i do not know how old he is, i got given him a couple of years ago and my sister had him for 3 years before she gave him to me. he was orginally purchased from a pet shop as a adult. he was the one who injured his wing and had the cysts back in feb, the cysts have gone and he is flying well now so he is eating lots and no pooey bottom but has a scruffy look to him so what could cause this.i checked him over and he does not have mites.
April 29, 200817 yr Is he Moulting????? I have some really scruffy birds at the moment. They are going through a huge moult
April 29, 200817 yr Author i am not sure if he is moulting, all my other birds get pin feathers on their head when they moult but he has not.
April 29, 200817 yr Thinking more about it Deb, it looks a bit like he might have bit off the top of some feathers & the base may be left in so it will look rough till they drop out & are completely replaced when he moults again, but as I said before if he could be something like 6 or even more could be connected with getting old.
April 29, 200817 yr Author Thanks for the advice, i have never had a budgie look so scruffy that is why i was concerned.
