Posted April 28, 200817 yr I recently adopted a budgie from a shelter. She was in pretty bad shape but she has been at the vet now for a week. I get to pick her up tomorrow! I would really like some help with her mutation. I was told she is a Sky Blue Greywing Spangle. But I would like to confirm this with some budgie breeders. She has only one brown cheek spot and she also has a purple shade on her neck. I don't know if this actually means anything...? And one more thing, is she a standard or english budgie? She's a bit poofier than my other standard pet budgies. Thank you!
April 28, 200817 yr Don't know much about mutations so will leave it for the one's who do. But my blink guess is clearwing sky blue. She is very pretty and may be considered a small Show variety bird. Nasty wing clip unfortunately which hopefully will grow out.
April 28, 200817 yr She is a pretty one, I agree with **** what a horrible wing clip but thank goodness it all grows back I can't see the spangle marking that well if she has cinnamon throat spot which I see that means she is not a gray wing but a cinnamon skyblue spangle (she looks opaline too) but we will see what others think. I would say she is a show type budgie doesn't mean she fits the standards but she comes from the line vs the pet type Welcome.
April 28, 200817 yr i agree with elly, cinnamon sky blue spangle and possible opalining... Does she have scaley face also?
April 28, 200817 yr Not sure about the cinn that Elly is talking about, I can't see that. I would say skyblue clearwing also. The darker colour I see on her neck is a purply colour is that right? If so I would say she is carrying violet......I've just looked again and now I can just see the spangles, are they brown(cinnamon), grey or are they blue? If they are blue she is an opaline spangle.
April 28, 200817 yr Author Thank you!Yes, she was found outside and nobody claimed her as a lost pet. So the RSPCA put her up for adoption. I can't wait until she has a good moult. Her feathers are dirty and broken. They will grow back, right? The vet is currently treating her for everything from scaly face to a vitamin deficiency and apparantly LOTS and LOTS of worms. Not sure about the cinn that Elly is talking about, I can't see that. I would say skyblue clearwing also. The darker colour I see on her neck is a purply colour is that right? If so I would say she is carrying violet......I've just looked again and now I can just see the spangles, are they brown(cinnamon), grey or are they blue? If they are blue she is an opaline spangle.Yes, she does have a purple shine on her neck. The spangles? Are those on her wings? Because those are very light blue. However, she does have cinnamon stripy markings under her eyes. They are very light but are definitely there. Edited April 28, 200817 yr by chompie_puppy
April 28, 200817 yr Well the opaline gene causes the spangles(on her wings yes) to come through as the body colour. So she is skyblue opaline spangle, possibly also carrying the cinnamon colour but it may be masked by her other colouration on her wings. She is also most likely carrying violet too.
April 28, 200817 yr the throat spot is brown you can see it in the first picture, plus she said there was brown throat spot so I checked it out ...assuming that is a brown throat spot the bird would be carrying cinnamon which could be washing out the marking and not making it a clearwing but in fact a cinnamon. Yes see the opaline, and I forgot the tidbit you told me that last time about the spangle and opaline gene combined.
