Internal Aviary Photos

I am well on the way to getting my first aviary and was wondering how to set up the inside. The couple I have spotted on this site seem very sparce to me. I was planning on a rack of 5 or 6 dowels an a 45 degree angle in one corner with loads of branches all over the place. Some photos of what your aviary looks like inside would be much appreciated. I also think I will get those automatic seed and water feeders to hang from the roof and maybe some bottles of water around the place too.

I guess you dont want to crowd to aviary too much or you wont be a ble to get in there and do what needs to be done.

The birds need plenty of space to perch but they also need space to fly too. I have hanging dishes for my seed and a metal stand with a ceramic tray for my fresh food. You can get large ceramic bird feeders that are just beautiful for $17 from bunnings.

I wouldn't use dowel perches they don't provide the exercise that budiges need to exercise their feet, I would use only natural perches that either you make yourself from safe wood or from the pet shop. When you put up perches put them wide and try and keep the middle open for flying also at different heights so they can go up and down for exercise.

Some people have dowel, I much prefer natural branches. I believe that I try to simulate a natural environment as much as possible, so there are native branches, cut grevillea and calistaman clippings are added regularly, I have seed bells, as well as hanging seed containers, hanging water containers, fresh fruit and veges, mainly veges are added to a few hanging trays at the moment, and there is plenty of room for the birds to fly around.

You are right, the birds need room, but you need to entertain them as well.

One good idea I copied off a poster on here named deb is getting some PVC pipe, capping one end, drilling some holes high up on it to allow it to be attached to the aviary wire, then filling it with water and putting some cut clippings off native bushes in there. the water in the pipe keeps them all fresh whilst the birds consume the leaves and braches. I am finding that my birds actually like sleeping in there. Works very well. Pics to be taken later on this.
