to create opaline male offspring the parents either have to be as follows...

A pairing of a opaline cock x opaline hen

gives 100% opalines of both sexes

OR

A pairing of a normal / opaline cock x opaline hen

gives opaline cocks, opaline hens, normal / opaline cocks and normal hens..

As Libby has told you, that are the only two ways a sex linked Mutation can be produced [Opaline]. So to answer your question, your birds mother must have been an Opaline hen & the father either another Opaline or a cock split for Opaline [carrying this gene].

Opaline is a sex-linked trait. The male must have 2 genes to be visually opaline, the female needs only one. To over-simplify, male budgies are xx and females are xy. The opaline gene is carried on the x chromasome. That is why female offspring of an opaline male are visually opalines, they have only one x chromasome to give for female offspring and it would be opaline.

his mother was opaline cinnamon diluted blue yellow face type 2

and his dad was light green (must have been carrying the gene)

The mother wasnt a dilute....cinnamon does that to colours...it dilutes any colour by around half strength. So she would have been A YF type 2 cinnamon blue :P
