If i wanted to train a budgie how old should it be before taking it away from the mum?

I start handling all mine twice a day while they are in the nest. Once they are fledged and eating on their own I seperate them. Mine have always been very tame using this sort of arrangement. My last lot, one went to a nine year old, one to a six year old and the last is going to a kinder. This way they are well socialised but friendly too.

I agree the earlier you start the better , once feeding itself it will be okay to seperate.

I handle mine in the nest also. When feathered. They like a cuddle and scratch.
