Posted April 25, 200817 yr Here's 2 baby budgies... the first one is only 4 weeks old. The breeder desbribe her cere as being dark pink with almost no white around the nostrils. the second one was 6 weeks old on the picture and he's now 8 weeks old. The breeder describe her cere as being "kind of pale blue" with white around the nostrils. On the picture, it's the one on the back... the other on the picture is believed to be a female by the breeder (she keeps her for herself) but the woman admit by herself that she is not good at sexing budgies and she's new to breeding. so what's your idea? male ou female? April 25, 200817 yr they all look like males to me for others looking at the picture double click on them and they will enlarge
April 25, 200817 yr Hello this is my first reply ever. I hope I help. I think the first picture is a boy and the second picture if yours is the one at the back on the left I think it is a girl. Here is a link to a site I look at to work it out, http://devvle.com/budgiegender.html I have another site but I cannot find it. I will post it when I do .. Oh and I think the one on the right is a male unless it has white around the nostrils I couldn't tell.. Edited April 25, 200817 yr by rah
April 25, 200817 yr I agree with Rah, the one at the back with the white around the nostrils is a female. The one's with pinky coloured ceres all over are males. Edited April 25, 200817 yr by melbournebudgies
April 25, 200817 yr Author Badly I cant have closer pictures... this woman who breed the budgies seems to be allergic to pictures! when I ask for more, she just say that she cant garanty the sexing anyway so I need to take the risk...or not. That's why I ask people because I'm not sure I want to take the risk.
April 25, 200817 yr well from those far pics, top one i say cock, bottom two i say one hen and one cock, hen being the one at the back... what're you chasing?
April 25, 200817 yr Author I want a male...I was going to take both the blue one and the grey spangle in the back...but as it seems that this one is not as evident as with the others, I guess I will only take the blue one! The one I really wanted is the grey spangle in front, but the breeder firmly believe it's a female (even if from the pics I would say male....) and want to keep it for herself. April 25, 200817 yr maybe she wants to for herself that is why she is saying that...they all look male to me I remember Merlin in the in between stage from the pink to the light blue to the dark blue and that is what the back one looks like to me but...the cere looks a little flatter which could indicate female. The one in the front really looks male. Here is Merlin when he was younger and during the transition state you can see the white nasal rings Edited April 25, 200817 yr by Elly
April 25, 200817 yr Author but the picture was taken when he was only 6 weeks old... he would have allready been in transition cere?? it is not too young? I dont believe she wants to keep 2 for herself...I believe that she truly believe that the spangle in front is a female even if everybody I show the picture tell me the opposite! one of her friend breed budgies from a longer time and she told her that this one is a female...that's why I guess she is so sure and dont want to change her mind. I will only take the blue one...and will tell her that when she will realise that the spangle is a male, I could still be interested! I dont want to breed...I allready have one male. I only want to keep male because I believe that if I end with 2 males and one female, there is highter risk that when they all reach maturity the males will fight over the female...or I'm wrong on that one?
April 25, 200817 yr but the picture was taken when he was only 6 weeks old... he would have allready been in transition cere?? it is not too young? the cere usually changes around the 3-6 month mark around the first molt I dont want to breed...I allready have one male. I only want to keep male because I believe that if I end with 2 males and one female, there is highter risk that when they all reach maturity the males will fight over the female...or I'm wrong on that one? you are correct that is why I had 2 males I didn't want eggies accidently
April 25, 200817 yr Author Finally she send me new pictures of the spangled, in fact she send me pics of the 3 chicks from the same parents. They are 8 weeks now. Her pics are never very good..but maybe it will help! If you have an idea...she will maybe even change her mind about my favorite that she wanted to keep! There is 2 grey spangled and one normal grey.
