Budgie Hearing

Featured Replies

The last few days there has been an odd bird a few houses away up the street who likes to give of a sharp semi loud "PEEP or CHIRP." The windows in my house are closed & I can still hear this bird mildly thru the window. But the Saucy Face ( my hen) goes nuts when she hears it. She starts calling this bird & will not stop calling to this unknown bird until she hears no reply. It's like they are calling each other .. it goes on & on back & forth.

I noticed both my birds doing this last year & again this same calling game this year. It's like the hen is saying to the strange bird .... " OVER HERE ... COME & RESCUE US ! " The bird never comes closer & I wonder if it can hear these 2 calling it from inside the den.

I think that budgies must have really amazing hearing. Has anyone else anything like this or a similar experience ?

yes they do from what I understand, in fact if your budgies are calling it may be another budgie out there? did you see what type of bird they are calling, if it is another budgie you probably should try and catch it :D.

It's not another budgie. It's a wild bird of some sort. I like that my birds call to it. They call to robins & cardinals & blue jays ... anything that chirps is interesting to them. If it was another budgie .. I'd be out there with millet hanging all over me saying COME & GET ME ! so I can get you !

I have made videos of my bird and when he hears his own whistle he goes off his chops. It must be good what ever he says.
