Posted April 24, 200817 yr Hi, Bing likes to chew on my fingernails, is this a normal behaviour for a young budgie?? or is it something i should try to prevent? thanks :hap:
April 24, 200817 yr Budgies are curious by nature. I'd say Bing is just seeing in your finger nail is a tasty treat or something to chew on. I wouldn't worry about it. Just make sure your fingernails are scrubbed clean as that is where dirt and bacteria hide, and could make Bing sick.
April 24, 200817 yr It is normal as Liv said make sure that your nails are clean. I believe and this is my thoughts that birds like to flirt with fingernails & toes lol because they are very similar to a cere on another bird. Merlin flirts with my thumbnail all the time and occasinally will bite it.
April 24, 200817 yr my boy honey has also taken a fancy to my fingernails... so much so he "feeds" them like i'm his partner... it's quite revolting actually LOL! I don't think he's causing any harm, and as already stated, keep them clean Sounds like he's bonding well with you!
April 24, 200817 yr Author hmmm thanks everyone, i always thought he was looking for a place to bite me and he thinks that that will hurt the most because he cant get a grip anywhere else but i guess not? thanks
April 24, 200817 yr The Weebil preens my nails & picks off any dead skin around them ... I will never need to go to a manicurist to get this done. As my Budgie does it for me ! It's funny how he use to bite me ... way back when. Now he is just curious about my fingers & nails & is very gentle.
