Hi my name is Cara and I have just recently joined Budgerigar breeders club INC.. I had two beautiful budgies called Auzzie and Blue but sadly Auzzie had to be put down due to an ulcerated tumour which we didn't realise he had until the vet pulled out some feathers. Blue on the other hand was fine for two weeks doing all his normal stuff (preening, eating, playing, talking etc) but he is not as talkative any more or playful for that matter, hes still eating, drinking, and preening himself. If any one knows if that if a sign of fretting could you tell me and if so should i introduce another budgie to him??????

I will post some pics of Auzzie and Blue soon......

Hello and welcome

I am sorry for your loss :hap:

I would say Blue is grieving for Auzzie. They all do it in their own way when they loose a friend. I wouldn't get another bird if you don't want another one yourself. You may find that in a few more weeks Blue will suddenly become more attached to you as you become his new mate :D

Keep and eye on his health, and check for poopy bum and weightloss etc.

Hi Cara and Welcome :hap:

I am sure some budgies miss their companions just as your Blue seems to miss his friend now. If you make a choice in the future to buy Blue a friend, do quarantine ( for at least 30 days in a seperate cage and seperate room ) as the new bird can introduce disease to your existing bird.

Look forward to your photos...there is a link in my signature on how to post pictures.

Cheers kaz

Hey Cara, welcome to the forum, hope you enjoy it here. There is lots of useful information everywhere here. Sorry to hear about Auzzie...

Welcome to the forums

Having first hand experience with what you went through it is all about what you want and if you want to bring a 2nd bird into the picture. When Pretty died we decided on just 1 bird and Merlin has been flying sole for a year now and he is completely okay. They are quiet within the first couple months because they are unsure their companion is gone but the more time you spend with him the more social he will become with you. If you don't have the time then getting a 2nd bird maybe a good idea. As Kaz said, you must quarantine for 30 day which means keep your new bird out of ear range and in a completely different rooms so you can observe the new bird for any illness it may carry. So you will have to have another cage (it can be smaller) to use for the next 30 days before you introduce them.

Auzzie and Blue 1 week before Auzzie had to be put down. See his tail feathers are growing out to the side, if anyone has this problem its either an ingrown feather which is what the vet first thought or it could be cancer.

^_^ Hello and welcome to BBC ,Cara! Sorry to hear about Auzzie. Pictures are great but don't be afraid to make them a little bit bigger (I try and avoid wearing glasses when I am at the computer). I am sure you will love it here! :D

The only reason i didn't make them bigger was because they went blurry when i tried to enlargen them the first time.
