Naughty Buddy Wont Eat His Vegetables!

Featured Replies

Posted

I have tried every fruit & vegetable in my fridge including cauliflower, brocoli, apple (no seeds) carrot, brussel sprouts, and even grapes! he is just not interested in them he wont even try it, he seems to only be interseted in seed! im worried that he will be lacking nutrition if he doesn't eat a varied diet. is there anything else that i could give him that he might like? or is it cause he is still a baby or nervous about his new home?? Also i have cuttle bone in his cage that he is not intersted in!

and on numerous website i have read, it says that sand paper perches make the little guys feet hurt (understabley) but what do i use to keep his beak and nails well manicured?? i have a branch from a gum tree as one of his perches but he doesn't like to sit on it!

any suggestions would be greatly appriciated

You ust have to persevere, try grating up apple, carrot and celery and mixing it with a bit of his seed. You can eve take his straight seed away then for a day and see if he gives in.

As fas as perches manicures aren't a worry, wild birds don't have sand paper perches! I would take out ay fake perches completely and just put natural branches in there.

I agree use only natural perches or ones that are made in the stores that are natural like, a calcium perch or cuttlebone and he will use it when he wants too.

As for veggies, fruits etc..it can take up to a month to get your budgie to eat any of it lol so you must continue. Here is an article from our FAQ on teaching your budgie to eat a variety of food

http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...&artlang=en also if you do a search or look through the food and nutrition forum you will also see posts just like yours with mmber suggestions too .

i agree with Melbournebudgie and Elly, it takes being persistent, it took my birds in the avairy a couple of months before they tried the vegies.

I find that the baby budgies you buy that were raised on vegies take them easily, but the ones you buy from places that don't feed vegies seem to take forever to catch on to eating them. I grate and shred everything up and sprinkle seed on top of it and take out the ordinary seed dish so that's all they have and find that they come around quicker doing that (of course I put the ordinary seed dish back in after a couple of hours so they don't starve  )
