Posted April 21, 200817 yr Was just wondering, these last few nights, has anyone other than Sunnie and i had problems with any uncovered birds (e.g. aviary) being up all night and chirping like it's midday? To avoid complaints from neighbours as it was on-going for a third night in a row we covered their cage in shade-cloth...?
April 21, 200817 yr Yeah it’s normal Libby…when it’s moonlight my 300 or so Budgies have a picnic…just as well I don’t live in suburbia.
April 21, 200817 yr No extra chatter from any of mine, but it may depend on the aspect of the aviary...where the light comes in
April 21, 200817 yr Author Probably doesn't help we've just changed the usually shade clothed pergola to clear sheeting :s LOL! I've never had this problem in the 6 years i've owned an aviary before that LOL!
April 21, 200817 yr I have some shade cloth up, but my aviaries face north so get the light in lots, it’s very prevalent in the warmer weather when the birds are stimulated to breed. My African Lovebirds like to chatter at night also.
April 21, 200817 yr :grbud: :hap: :parrot: Nothing ever happens on a full moon with my crew but I used to work in a large bus station a million years ago and it went CRAZY on a full moon!
April 21, 200817 yr Mine have been doing the same the last coupleof nights, I noticed that the full moon makes the Yeard what would be normally pitch black ...Light so they chat away lol
April 21, 200817 yr Mine stay quiet through a full moon. We have street lights that light up our yard so they are used to a light night
April 21, 200817 yr mine are always quiet at night but the last couple of weeks have been cloudy so the nights are very dark.
April 21, 200817 yr Yes Mine had a party at 2:30am Sunday Morning. The moon was in the right spot to shine through the windows.
April 21, 200817 yr Author It was absoloutly ridiculas the amount of noise they were making! If i were my neighbours i'd hate me!... heck i did hate me! lol! 100 budgies within 3m of my window, chattering away all night was NOT cool! Plus the babies in the cabinets kept calling !!! argh!!!! *pulls hair*
April 21, 200817 yr You only have to hope Libby that your neighbours are so used to hearing Budgie noises during the day that they didn't even hear them…did you rig up a shade cloth blind or something like that? How was last night? Or maybe something like a canvas blind would be better for full moon time. Edited April 21, 200817 yr by Norm
April 22, 200817 yr Author basically we just nail a 70% visablity doubled over sheeting of shade cloth across the front and leave the sides, they were being quite loud last night too so bob put it up again we also use it when it's overly windy... three nails into the wood pillars around the aviary holds it up... and it comes down in the morning i'll take a pcitures sometime, basically it covers the top half of the aviary only

Dozing off in front of my tv then all of a sudden hearing them all chatting away. I thought something might have spooked them, but they werent flying around spooked, just chattering away in the light of the full moon
