Posted April 18, 200817 yr George and Franklin have been extemely naughty flying on my tv and sitting there perched and then flying back to the top of their cage back and forth. If I wanted to get them back into their cage it would be nearly impossible because I would be chasing them around and so I decided that I had to clip their wings. I had cut all their primary feathers thinking this would be okay but then found out that I cut too many and should of left some so they can fly just a bit. Anyhow, the problem of them flying onto the tv has been solved but should I be concerned that too much has been cut. I have noticed that when they are in the cage they used to fly from the floor to the first perch but now they cant and crawl onto the cage to get to the perch. I feel bad for clipping their wings and Franklin is a little grumpy. He does not seem like his usual self towards me. Normally when I feed him millet from my hand while he is in the cage he would sit there eating happily and would peck at any of the other birds that try to eat the millet as well. I tried feeding him the millet after he had his wings clipped and he showed no interest which is very unusual for him. After I clipped George's wings he was sitting on my finger singing for quite some time. George had not sat on my finger for that long in a while.
April 18, 200817 yr they'll get over it in time Some time they become to much to handle and a clipping is essential... although i don't blame them for being a bit moody
April 18, 200817 yr They're just sulking, just like when I pick my happy little boy up from childcare and he cries when I arrive - to make me feel bad! Like Libby said just give them time to finish their moody moment and they'll be back to their old selves.
April 18, 200817 yr OH THE GUILT ! LMAO .... they do make us feel so bad don't they ? Don't fret they will get over it soon. The fun part will come now. They will hang onto their perch with a death defying grip with their little budgie feeties & nails & flap flap flap in a super helicopter motion & try to lift the entire cage off the furniture or stand its sitting on. That always makes me laugh ... HOUSTON WE HAVE LIFT OFF ! NOT ! I notice they preen more when these feathers are gone. And they seem almost shocked that they have less to work on. It's like they are thinking, " Hey, where did them long flightys go ? Ya know what ? This is a little more easy to work with ! BABY LIKES, Yes Baby Likes .... YES I DOOOO ! "
April 18, 200817 yr They will get used to having their wings clipped and hopefully by the time the wings grow back their behaviour has change so they will come back to you.
April 18, 200817 yr And they seem almost shocked that they have less to work on. It's like they are thinking, " Hey, where did them long flightys go ? Ya know what ? " Much like when we get our hair cut short and whack ourselves in the ankles with the brush the first time we go to brush it
April 19, 200817 yr Much like when we get our hair cut short and whack ourselves in the ankles with the brush the first time we go to brush it Gee's Melbournebudgies .... I've got to admit ... I've never brushed below my waste or my leg hair before. So I can't say I ever whacked my ankles ! I guess you are saying your not a good candidate for the HAIRCLUB FOR MEN ? Can you say Sasquatch ? Or Big Foot ? Edited April 19, 200817 yr by birdluv fixed quote
April 19, 200817 yr I used to have my hair nearly to my waist and then I got it cut shoulder length, when I first tried to brush it it felt very strange to have to try and stop part way.
April 19, 200817 yr Don't feel bad, it didn't hurt them and the feathers WILL grow back and you might even get a happy attitude adjustment! A friend of mine has 2 budgies, brother and sister. She never clips the male's wings but every so often the female gets out of hand so she modestly clips her wings and all is well. (She has to clip at least twice a year). :ausb:
