Thank You!

I just wanted to say thank you so much!

My new pet budgie, Optimus Prime (my boyfriend's) is living right now with my budgie, Atlas. We brought him home 2 days ago from a nice petstore, and since they both came from the same batch the woman told us not to worry about infections (since apparently they get looked after a vet as well).

Well, the woman who put him in the care box broke one of his blood feathers, and today he began bleeding, so I quickly searched and found this forum, and how to stop it. I had to hold him down and pull it out because it was so damaged (I felt so bad!) but I managed to stop the bleeding with flour before it became too bad. It really scared me because he tried to fly out of hte cage and sprayed me down with a liberal amount of blood.

The vet said that there was no more bleeding, so I didn't actually have to take him to him. I cried again though when I paid 160$ for the emergancy trip for a 30$ bird, but I'd rather spend that then accidently kill him.

Optimus Prime is doing fantastic now, and hasn't even picked at his wing at all.

I just wanted to post and say thanks to everyone who helped make these topics so people like me know what to do.

As for my advice; It's your budgie's life on the line! If I had to hold him down and do it again I would rather than watch him bleed. It's better to cry and do it than to wait too long and risk him getting even more hurt.

Thanks!

I am so glad you have had a good result from our information here. AND you need a pat on the back for being so pro active and finding the information we have put out there too....good on you :D WELCOME and hope you stick around awhile :P:D

PS another way to stop bleeding immediately and less messy than flour is use white pepper the same way ;)

 Glad BBC was able to help and you had the presence of mind to do what you did!! I know that BBC has helped me a lot on a number of issues and as KAZ says, welcome, and do stick around! You sound like a WONDERFUL pet owner! :P

Hello and welcome :D

I am so pleased your bird is well ;) Well done!!!! Blood feathers are a real pain in the butt and i didn't know how to treat them until i came here too :D

I hope you enjoy it here

:wub::P

Thanks, I'm uploading some pictures of my babies to show off in the new member post.

This is just a little of the blood that I found. There's splatters all over the wall, my bedsheets, my 3 pillows (one brand new!), and the floor. not to mention that I looked like Carrie out of the Stephen King movie!

He's eating, and is letting Atlas preen him. Life is good!

It was a lot. The vet said he didn't really lose too much, but when I went back to the petstore to tell them what happened and to see if they could cover some of it, the woman behind the counter was shocked because it looked more like I tried to kill it with my bare hands than to save it!

I'm sorry that your hen passed away like that. That's the worst part of owning a pet, is when they die ;A;!

I am glad that BBC and the FAQ's could help you out!!! Glad to have you hear and your budgie is okay.
