Posted April 15, 200817 yr i was just wondering how long it took befor your budgies became comfortable with you, Bing is now comfortable with me for a good hour or so out of his cage, then he flies to his cage, which i interperet as him needing food so i put him in, he has a feed, then when he is finished he doesnt want to be away form his cage??? did this happen to you? P.S Bing has been with me for about 8 weeks and was a baby when i got him
April 15, 200817 yr I have the opposite with Bubbles she doesn't want to be in her cage lol ... she is a very spoilt baby ..... Hejust might want some space .....
April 15, 200817 yr He is still a baby, I find the younger budgies tend to nap more, so he might just want some time to take a nap
April 15, 200817 yr Every bird is different so the time line of how quickly they became "tame" to your standards is also different. Continue to work with Bing, you may want to use his favorite food when he is out to entince him. When you let him out what does he get to do? If you give in the wide open space even a tame budgie is going to take advantage of that. Tell us what the routine is like.
April 15, 200817 yr Author well i take him up to my room every day, i bring him out and put him on my duble sized bed with plenty of space, i dont have many toys for him to play with, but i give him a ball with a bell in it, a pen lid, a guitar pick, and occassionaly i give him carrot or corn, he seems to enjoy playing with his toys outside, and then sometimes he will lose all his energy and just sit and chirp. this has also brought up another question, when Bing is tired after being out of his cage for a while, he will sit down and lean to the side, with his left foot almost tucked up and him virtually lying flat, is this normal? thanks
April 15, 200817 yr Think of him like a small puppy or human child, he needs plenty of time out for rest and growth. Many birds sleep on one leg, this is normal.
April 15, 200817 yr Yes all that is normal and you are probably pooping him out what I suggest is instead of 1 full hour break it down into 3 sessions a day baby budgies do nap a lot vs the older ones (I don't see Merlin hardly nap anymore but when he was little all the time). It sounds like he is doing well if he is playing with you like this. Breaking it down I think you will see he has more energy between sessions.
